About Mary
Mary was born on Long Island in New York attending North School Elementary, Sanford H. Calhoun High School and State University of New York at Plattsburgh where she studied art and psychology. Living in the far north of New York State taught Mary the joy of skiing and playing in snow in winter. Mary moved to the Olympic Peninsula in 1979 where she enjoyed working and hiking in the Olympic National Park. Mary moved to Lummi Island just out of Bellingham in 1981 to attend Western Washington University where she studied biology, physics, and chemistry, receiving a BS in Applied Mathematics.Mary moved to the Methow Valley in 1989 where she raised her two beautiful daughters now both in college. This is a fabulous place to raise children quotes Mary because of the wild and beautiful places they can visit without spending a dime to get there. Mary has been active in the protection of the wild places we live. She was president of the Methow Forest Watch, and previously worked in environmental research in Bellingham. Mary is a member of the Nature Conservancy, Natural. Resources Defense Council, and previously a long time member of the Methow Valley Citizens Council, Methow Valley Forest Watch, and Methow Conservancy. Living in the Methow for two decades Mary loves all types of skiing including telemark, skate, classic and dowhill skiing. The trail systems here are simply world class and the regional ski resorts are phenomenal with that famous east side champagne powder. Hiking, biking, river rafting, travel, gormet cooking and gardening are some of the many hobbies Mary enjoys.
